Hey everyone,

I thought it was about time I introduced myself and my Foz. (That, and I'm pretty damn board at the moment :) )

I'm Dylan, and this is my Foz when I first bought her.

My first mods were 35% window tint, and a 2.5" cat back exhaust system.

Then, I started collecting some audio gear, to add to the gear I already had left over from my last car.

Front stage consists of, JBL C508GTi 5.25" component speakers, and 2 JBL P180.2 90WRMS x 2 amps to power them.

4 Bulk packs of Dynamat Extreme to stop all the rattles

Now, to power those bad boys, a Odyssey PC2150 and 60m of 0awg cable.

So, while I didn't have use of my license for 3 months care of NSW P plater laws, I decided to do this.

And make a start on the Dynamat install.

After this, I went and bought some clear side indicators. I dont have any pics at the moment, but everyone knows what they look like. Then, I got my license back, so the Foz stayed un-modded while I was enjoying driving it, and my freedom once again.

Not to long after I got my license back, my center diff decided it no longer wanted to play ball. So, this put the ICE install on hold for about $1800 :(

So, a few of my friends and I decided to do a weekend trip to Newcastle a few months back, and the stock sounds just really would not cut it at highway speeds and road noise.

Speaker and amp install time!

I started with about 3 layers of Dynamat on the outer door skin.

Now, I figured that I should upgrade the stock speaker wiring whilst I had the door trims of. I thought this would be a rather simple job, boy was I wrong.

I decided to use the stock wires to pull the new wires through the grommet and into the door. This is where it got difficult. I didn't realize that the grommet was cable tied and taped up in about 4 different places that i couldn't see.
So after cutting away all the tape and cable ties that were restricting me from pulling the new cable into the door, it was pretty straight forward.

Then I sealed and Dynamated the outer door skin as much as I could.

I then made up some baffles to mount the speakers to the doors out of 18mm MDF, and painted them do give them some water resistance, and help with the stealth look.
Image

And prepped the speakers for mounting them to the baffles by sticking some self adhisive closed cell foam on the back of them. I also did this to the back of the baffles as well. This helps create an air tight seal between the speaker and the door. This along with sealing the service holes, makes the door as much like a speaker enclosure as possible.

Finally, the speakers are mounted.

Now, to install the amp.

Under the front passenger seat looks like as good a spot as any.
Image
I also put a crossover under each seat.

Running the power cable.

Wiring up the amp.
Image

You can also see my earthing point in that pic. One of the rear bolts that hold the front passenger seat in, yet to be sanded/scraped back to bare metal for best electrical connection.

Now, as I am yet to source a spare set of a pillar trims to make a nice fiberglass mount for the tweeters, and I didn't really have time when I was installing the front stage to do this any way. They are just held in by tape at the moment.
Image
Image

They should turn out similar to the a pillars I did in the '89 Lancer I owned before the Foz. But trimmed in Vinyl or Painted to match the rest of the interior instead of carpeted.
Image
Image

That is about where I am up to so far with the ICE install.

Awesome work mate. Great to see someone going to town with Dynamat like you have! That big JBL amp is a beauty! What are the specs on the 'birth sheet'?

To raise the sound stage and improve imaging. The door locations aren't the greatest in this regard.

TMWNN: pete_mac has hit the nail on the head. I am still playing with tweeter positioning. but at the moment, base of the a pillars is probably where they will end up.

pete_mac: The specs on the birth sheet are 2430WRMS @ 4 Ohms with <0.01@THD and 2030WRMS @ 1 Ohm with <0.01%THD. Crown Engineering FTW! I also still have a bulk pack left. I think the roof is going to make a fair bit of un wanted noise once I get the sub stage sorted.

Ray: Thanks mate. Haha, Turbo would be awesome. But until I get my open license, Handling mods FTW!!!
